The Mind-Body Problem is the metaphysical problem of trying to understand the relationship between the physical and mental aspects of our nature
Ontologies of mind and body
Dualism = view that the realm of the physical is ultimately distinct from the realm of the mental
- Substance dualism = the mind and the body are distinct entities / different categories of things.
- Property dualism = the view that individuals might be a singular kind of thing, but they have different ranges of properties (mental properties and physical properties)
Idealism = the view that there is ultimately no ontological distinction between the realm of the physical and mental. This is because it is all one realm = all of reality is mental
Materialism =ultimately there is no ontological distinction between the realm of physical and the realm of the mental, and all of reality is ultimately physical
