In Kuhn-1962-structure-of-scientific-revolutions (p. 18 - 19)

  • when an individual or group first produces a synthesis that attracts most of the next generation’s practitioners, the older schools gradually disappear because their members convert to the new paradigm
  • the new paradigm implies a new and more rigid definition of the field
  • those unwilling or unable to accommodate their work to the new paradigm proceed in isolation or attach themselves to some other group ==“Some people just got to die!” - Dr. Fraiser==
  • once the paradigm is accepted, the first principles and concepts do not need to be mentioned in every major work and is left to be mentioned in textbooks. This means that research articles end up being addressed to professional who have the knowledge of the shared paradigm (the works are no longer accessible to the general public)
